Interview with Troy Bayliss

We interviewed the three times Superbike World Champion Troy Bayliss, after this racing week end in Phillip Island where he has been replacing injured Racing – Ducati SBK Team rider Davide Giugliano.

Your history in the world Superbike Championship with Ducati started right by substituting an injured Carl Fogarty at Sugo in 2000, and Ducatisti all over the world still cry of emotions remembering your victory at Valencia MotoGP in 2006, replacing Sete Gibernau. What pushed you to propose yourself this time?

There were a few factors and it just sort of made sense to do it. Basically when i heard how serious Davide's injury was I thought I'd contact Ernesto and see if they were thinking to put anyone on the bike. I've often thought how good it would be to do a wildcard. I love Phillip Island, and of course the track was celebrating 25 years of Superbikes so I thought that it would be good, for the fans and for the track, to have an Aussie on the bike.

How did you feel when you have been confirmed for this? How is to live a race week end again?

I was pretty excited of course, and then I got down here to the Island and thought ‘what am I doing'?! No, seriously, it's been great, I've had fun seeing all the guys and enjoyed being back on the bike, as I've always said the Ducati is as familiar and comfortable to me as my chair at home. It's been really good fun and I hope I've put on a bit of a show for the fans!

Back to the Ducati family. How was working again with the Team?

A lot of the guys I worked with before are still in the garage now, so that's been cool, catching up with them all and getting another chance to work with those guys. That was another of the reasons I wanted to come and do this, so it's been fantastic to see everybody again.

Last week end you have been giving lots of emotions to Ducatisti, and for them you are a true legend. Do you want to send them a message?

Ciao ragazzi, I've had a great time being back here and racing the Panigale - hope you've enjoyed watching. Thanks to all the fans and Ducatisti for all your support!
