Hi Toon, Chum, all,
Good to see you all at CentralWorld! I hope your weekend was a big success.
Just back from a ride to Koh Samui from Hua Hin. Did HH to Surat Thani the first day: Excellent road on the way south, not too much traffic, so we crusied at about 140-150kph without any problems. The bike? Excellent! Even two-up handles like a dream, out brakes anything else on the road. It corners with such precision: My GF who had never done such a road trip before soon settled in. As for Koh Samui? NOT for Superbikes! The traffic, crazy drunk farangs on scooters, bad roads. I think If I lived on Koh Samui the new Hypermotard 796 would be about the right bike. The trip back was noticable for the reason that the Hiway north is is far worse condition. Still the bike handled the many broken sections without ever bottoming out the front end: a tribute to the set up of the Showa front end for me by Ducatisi. Stopped last night at Lang Suan, 60 kilos short of Chompon. The coast road along this stretch is perfect for crusing: incredibly scenic and low traffic volume. Tried the emergency breaking on the 1198 this morning when a load of timber posts fell off a truck about 200m in front of me while doing 145kph this morning.Besides having to peel my Girlfriend off my back the bike again stopped incredibly well, without bottoming out the forks, or any shuddering...
All in all top marks to the 1198!~
